With Royal Approval: A list of newly appointed Royal Warrant holders.

The King and Queen have granted their first Royal Warrants Of Appointment, endorsing their favoured providers of goods and services.
Suppling a variety of products from tea bags to trench coats, fragrance to flower arrangements, 145 companies can claim a unique status – they are all holders of the very first Royal Warrants Of Appointment during the reign of His Majesty King Charles III.

What is a Royal Warrant?
A Royal Warrant is an official sign of royal patronage, a tradition that goes back to Medieval times. Today’s Royal Warrants are granted to individuals or companies that have made a continuing and significant supply of goods and or services to the royal household for at least five years, and each Royal Warrant is usually granted for up to five years.

While the ability to display the appropriate Royal Arms (the official emblem of the member of the Royal Family who has granted the Royal Warrant, known as a grantor) on a company’s product, packaging, stationery, advertising, premises and vehicles is a symbol of commitment to service, quality, excellence and craftsmanship, it is also, says the Royal Warrant Holders’ Association, a demonstration of the warrant holder’s “appropriate environmental and sustainability policy and action plan” – unsurprising, considering The King’s keen interest in the environment.

The latest Royal Warrant holders
King Charles and Queen Camilla awarded their new warrants in May 2024. “The grants were made to companies drawn from those previously holding a Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty as Prince of Wales,” says the Royal Warrant Holders’ Association. “Companies were reviewed and 145 were granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty the King.”

Of these, seven companies were also granted a Royal Warrant to Her Majesty Queen Camilla: Cornish vineyard Camel Valley, wine merchants Corney & Barrow, chemists DR Harris, department store Fortnum & Mason, stationers Smythson, florist Shane Connolly & Co and jewellers Wartski.

What is the criteria?
Holding a Royal Warrant is considered highly prestigious, and Fortnum & Mason chairman Kate Hobhouse says the company was “overjoyed” to have received a Royal Warrant from both The King and Queen, adding: “To receive a Royal Warrant in 2024 requires a rigorous focus on acting for a sustainable future, supporting the country’s rural and farming communities and protecting the arts and heritage crafts, all things that are very close to our hearts at Fortnum’s.”
