Two key royals set for promotion under Prince William – but Princess Anne to miss out
Prince William's monarchy will see some big changes to the royal workforce, claims royal commentator.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are tipped to get a huge promotion when Prince Wiliam becomes King, according to a royal commentator.
But he is reportedly set to snub his aunt, Princess Anne, in line with his plans to radically alter and secure the future of the monarchy.
According to the Daily Beast’s royal correspondent, Tom Sykes, King Charles’s cancer diagnosis has “forced” royals and aides alike to consider what a possible change in reign will look like.
Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have long been praised for their commitment to the crown, with the pair stepping up following the King and the Princess of Wales’s health woes this year.
Mr Sykes wrote that, although Edward and Sophie are “neither great friends nor enemies” of the King, they “have successfully won the trust and affection of William and Kate and they are likely to be rewarded with a promotion when William’s reign begins”.
He also speculated that their children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, could also play their part in William’s new monarchy.
The royal commentator said: “This elevation [Edward and Sophie’s promotion] may even see their kids, Viscount James and Lady Louise, made the first new working royals in a generation.”
James and Louise have largely been kept out of the spotlight, with the pair only attending a handful of high-profile engagements over the years.
Meanwhile, the future may not look so rosy for the Princess Royal, according to the expert.
