Prince William’s sweet six-word reply to a young boy who didn’t know who he was.
A young lad had been waiting patiently for Prince William to arrive when he encountered the heir to the throne, but had no idea who he was talking to at first
Prince William joked with a young fan who was waiting to see him – but seemingly had trouble recognising him up close.
The Prince of Wales was filmed meeting and greeting the public during a walkabout in Windsor shortly after the King’s Coronation. He came across a young royal fan who had eagerly been awaiting the arrival of the heir to the throne – even if he was not entirely sure what he looked like.
In the sweet exchange, the lad asked him: “How long until we are going to be able to see Prince William?” The prince, eager not to embarrass the boy, winked at his mother and responded: “We don’t know where he is!” Then he added: “Have you seen him yet?” When William asked him if he knew who he was the lad suggested “the government” before the penny finally dropped and he told his mother he was, in fact, Prince William.
The clip was shared on TikTok. One user wrote: “I love this! He’s such a lovely lovely man. Taking interest in everything the lil lad said.” Another added: “This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He’s a natural. Charismatic guy.” Prince William has been described as a family man who believes raising Prince George to be the future king is his ‘most important job’. Royal expert Robert Hardman, author of The Making of a King: Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, told Fox News: “William considers one of his most important jobs is raising the next monarch. All that’s going through his head is, ‘What kind of king is George going to be?”
The author suggests, William takes into consideration, whatever kind of King George is going to be, is down to William, and the Princes of Wales doesn’t “want to scare him off,” because the role of monarch is “a privilege and honour” versus “a burden.” The royal expert also highlighted William’s love for a normal life. He said: “William loves the sort of regular, normal life.” He added: “Yes, he’s heir to the throne, and he has all these castles, art and everything else, but in a way, he is happiest at home with wife and kids, doing the same things other families do, kicking the ball around, going bike riding, swimming, these kinds of things.”
