Prince Harry’s brazen decision just days after he saw royals raised eyebrows
After Prince Harry had seen his royal relatives at a high-profile event, he made an important business move regarding one of his major projects, but the timing had the potential to raise some eyebrows
Since leaving life as a working royal behind, Prince Harry’s relationships with some of his royal relatives have been pretty strained, and he has only joined the Royal Family at landmark events on a handful of occasions. One of these was the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee when Harry travelled back to the UK with his wife Meghan and their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – to celebrate 70 years of his beloved grandmother’s reign.
The couple didn’t attend all of the weekend’s celebrations, which also happened to take place over their daughter’s first birthday. However, they did attend a Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth at St Paul’s Cathedral and were spotted watching Trooping the Colour from the windows of the Major General’s Office, where they had a good view of Horse Guard’s Parade, and were accompanied by some of the royal youngsters.
Even though the couple remained pretty low-key at the Platinum Jubilee, their attendance at the major event showed the late Queen had remained good to her word. Despite any strained relations between Harry and the other royals, it signified the former monarch continued to see the Sussexes as “much-loved family members”, as she had noted in her statement released after the couple’s bombshell sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.
However, only a few days after this major public reunion between the Sussexes and the other royals, an important business move was made for one of Prince Harry’s most major projects, and the timing had the potential to raise some eyebrows. The move in question was registering a website for his memoir Spare, which at the time was some months away from publication – and speculation was rife about what the book might include, and what light it would paint the Royal Family in.
As the Mirror previously reported, the website princeharrymemoir.com was registered on June 21, just a couple of weeks after the Sussexes had visited the UK for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations – per the website whois.com. The website was then later updated to become the official home page for Harry’s memoirs, providing readers with all the information they needed on how to get their hands on a copy when it was published.
Harry’s memoir broke records upon its publication, becoming the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time, and in the UK 400,000 copies were sold on the first day. Spare explored Harry’s role in the monarchy in relation to his brother William as heir, and going all the way back into his childhood and into the present day, examined how he had ended up deciding to leave life in the UK behind and the long term reverberations the untimely death of his mother Princess Diana had on his mental health.
