Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Portuguese bolthole moves them ‘closer’ to key royal allies

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have bought a property in Europe, according to reports. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have seemingly picked up a home in Portugal, ensuring they retain a base on this side of the Atlantic.
The pair were famously evicted from Frogmore Cottage by King Charles in 2023, denying them a base in the UK. The couple are reluctant to visit Britain together due to Harry’s concerns over Meghan’s safety, although he has made several trips to his home country by himself.
The Portuguese home ensures she could travel to Europe with him in the future. And it also moved them ‘closer’ to two key royal allies. Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank also own a home in the country, at the plush CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, south of Lisbon.
It is not clear if Harry, 40, and Meghan’s home is in the same development in Melides, but the couple spent time there last year after attending the Invictus Games, reports the Daily Mail. Harry and Meghan, 43, are said to be close to Eugenie, 34, and her husband, 38, who works in marketing and sales for CostaTerra.
Prince Andrew’s younger daughter splits her time between London and Portugal with Brooksbank and their two children, August 3, and Ernest, 1. The pair appeared in the Netflix documentary Harry and Meghan in 2022 and they are thought to have visited Harry and Meghan in California.
Harry and Meghan leased Frogmore Cottage to Eugenie and Brooksbank between 2020 and 2022 before Charles took action following the publication of Harry’s damaging memoir ‘Spare’. The property belongs to the Crown Estate and Harry and Meghan spent £2 million of taxpayer refurbishing it after it was gifted to them by the Queen shortly after their wedding in 2018, although they subsequently paid this back.
