Prince George’s little-known hobby speaks volumes about the type of little boy he was
The Prince and Princess of Wales are thoroughly modern royals, from using social media to share intimate family videos and photos with the public, to revealing details of their cosy nights in with their favourite TV shows and takeaways.
The couple are frequently credited with bringing the royal family into the 21st century – and that extends to breaking some typical gender stereotypes, it seems. Back in 2018, it was revealed that Prince George had taken up a new hobby at his school Thomas’s Battersea.
The future King started taking extracurricular ballet lessons, which was “very popular amongst pupils in Years 1 – 8,” according to the school. At the time, proud dad Prince William confirmed his son was enjoying the activity, stating: “George is doing dancing as well, he loves it.”
The Thomas’s Battersea website states: “Pupils are prepared for the examinations of The Royal Academy of Dance and also for the school’s biennial Ballet Show. The syllabus consists of three dance disciplines: Ballet – the foundation and the most important part of the syllabus.
“Free Movement – this has been influenced by other dance styles such as jazz, contemporary and classical Greek dance and incorporates movements from them all. Character – the theatrical presentation of national dance using original ethnic dance and music which has been freely adapted for the theatre.
“The three styles – Hungarian, Russian and Polish – were selected because of their historic importance in the development of the nineteenth century full-length classical ballet. Ballet is taught to a very high standard at Thomas’s Battersea and our pupils always achieve 100% success in their examinations.”
