David is England’s best-known footballer and is thought to be close friends with Prince William.
The Prince of Wales personally asked the decorated athlete to become the public face of Omaze house draw – which has raised £4million for Up Against Time’s helicopter appeal.
Speaking at the event this week David said: “I’m an East End boy so every time we saw them in the air it made us very proud.
“As soon as I was asked to be involved by Prince William it was something I was very honoured (to do) in all honesty.”
In 2003 David received an OBE, and fans are calling for the former England captain to be given another honour.
