Meghan Markle wrote ‘personal letter’ to celebrity she loves – but she got snubbed
When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex reached out to one of the most famous people on the planet with a request in a 'personal letter', the A-lister 'respectfully declined'
When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex released her first foray into podcasting it was an immediate success, with the first episode of her series, Archetypes, swiftly nabbing the top spot in the charts. The series explored the labels that are often imposed upon women and attempted to break down their meanings and the ways in which they can be detrimental, a task Meghan recruited academics, authors, and a bevy of her A-list pals to help her with.
From Mariah Carey to Serena Williams, Meghan wasn’t short of some serious notable guests, all of whom were willing to discuss in detail the way different labels with negative connotations had been placed upon them as women during their illustrious careers. However, there was one A-lister who “respectfully declined” a request to appear on the podcast – even after Meghan had written them a “personal letter”.
The A-lister that Meghan had been seriously keen to recruit for Archetypes was none other than one of the most famous people on the planet: Taylor Swift. OK Magazine reports that the Duchess penned the singer-songwriter a “personal letter” in an attempt to persuade her to appear, but that Taylor “respectfully declined” through her official representative.
This isn’t the first time that Taylor Swift has turned down a royal request however, with a bombshell royal book reporting last year that the Queen of Pop was asked to fill a slot at King Charles’s Coronation concert in May 2023. Omid Scobie claimed in his book Endgame, that Taylor turned down this request to make an appearance – as she was in the middle of the first leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour.
When Taylor brought her Eras Tour to the UK this year, it seemed there wasn’t any bad blood over her inability to perform at the coronation, because she even had some special royal guests, with Prince William spending his 42nd birthday at the concert in Wembley Stadium, with his two oldest children – Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Taylor posed for photos with William and his two eldest kids and posted them on her official social media accounts wishing the future king a happy birthday. William was spotted letting loose and dancing the night away at the concert, and his cousin Zara Tindall was also in attendance with her husband Mike at the sold-out event.
