Duchess Sophie ‘signals’ key message while on tour with ’embarrassed and shy’ Edward
EXCLUSIVE: A body language expert analyses the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh's visit to Malta.
Duchess Sophie made a suggestive move while on tour with Prince Edward in Malta today that signalled a key message, according to a body language expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh travelled to the southern European country on Monday for a four-day visit to mark the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence and celebrate the country’s shared heritage and continuing collaboration with the UK.
Today, they visited Villa Guardamangia, the Maltese villa that the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip used to live in when they were the Edinburghs. The couple lived there between 1949 and 1951 while the prince was stationed in Malta as a serving Royal Navy officer.
Sophie and Edward toured the villa while hearing about restoration work taking place at the former royal residence and they recreated pictures of the late Queen and Philip which were taken more than 70 years ago.
Now body language expert Judi James analysed the couple’s appearance in Malta today and praised them for their “understanding of royal service” which even “reflect in their body language”.
She said that as they were recreating the pictures of the late monarch and her husband, the royal couple showed respect for the past by showcasing “low-key regal signals”.
She explained to Express.co.uk: “This will have been a very poignant moment for Edward and Sophie as they replicate a pose adopted by the late Queen and Philip seventy years ago during this visit to Malta.
“They look like the only appropriate royal couple to walk in the late Queen’s footsteps like this, as both were such favourites and impeccable in both their loyalty and their understanding of royal service.
“That even reflects in their body language here. Although they are creating a gentle echo of Elizabeth and Philip their low-key regal signals are all about respect for the past. Edward’s suit could have come from that era but Sophie’s beautiful flowing skirt is a mile away from the Queen’s tailored tweed suit. “
