‘I was in the room as Prince William delivered landmark speech’ | Royal | News
It’s the most relaxed the Prince has appeared all year, as he enjoys the South African sunshine while showcasing a topic he feels so passionately about.
Launching the Earthshot Prize in 2020 was a pivotal moment for the future King, and his determination to find workable climate solutions has been a key part of his work ever since.
Much of his time behind the scenes is spent working on the annual environmental prize, as he gets heavily involved with each of the 15 finalists.
And his passion and enthusiasm for Earthshot is plain for all to see.
On Monday he was captivated by a business making handbags out of old tyres as he’s determined to help create lasting change in the fashion industry, which contributes up to 10 percent of global carbon emissions and is reluctant to move towards more sustainable practices.
Sustainable fashion is a key focus of Earthshot Week and William has fully embraced it by wearing eco-friendly items each day.
It’s a subtle yet powerful way of showing people that he is part of the solution and is willing to do what it takes.
Climate change has long been an important issue for William, as he’s taken on the eco baton from his father, the King.
And now he’s determined to light the fire in the bellies of the next generation – as youth is a cornerstone of Earthshot Week.
Yesterday, William hailed the “breathtaking ideas” of young environmentalists and encouraged change makers to invest in them as he believe they will “change our future”.
He went on to pledge his support for those putting their lives on the line to protect wildlife and paid tribute to those who have been murdered in the course of their work in a landmark speech.
Speaking in front of the 400 guests he appeared relaxed and buoyed by the discussion on rangers, biodiversity and the environment – as he has been all week.
William has had a difficult year, following his father and his wife’s cancer diagnoses, and has juggled supporting them, their three children with the demands of being heir to the throne.
But now the Princess of Wales is on the road to recovery and the King has just returned from a successful tour to Australia and Samoa, the prince appears much more himself again.
As Kate continues to ease herself back into public engagements over the coming months, we can expect William to carry out his work with a renewed vigour.
