Kate Middleton Wrote a Letter to Fellow Cancer Survivor

Kate Middleton is showing her support to a fellow cancer survivor. After being diagnosed with cancer—and finishing chemotherapy treatment—earlier this year, the Princess of Wales is using her platform to spread awareness and reach out to others who have faced similar difficulties. Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala survived stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2013, and according to several outlets, Middleton wrote a letter to the star, who has also been heavily involved with cancer foundations and charities.

The actress recently revealed in a statement that she had reached out to the princess and was pleasantly surprised to receive a touching response.

“I wanted to reach out to HRH The Princess of Wales to send my good wishes, particularly due to my own experiences,” she said, per the Hindustan Times. “I am deeply heartened to receive such a warm response from her and wish her the very best of health.”

The outlet added that after being diagnosed in 2012, Koirala received a life-saving treatment at New York City’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Now, she wants to use her “voice to not only support cancer patients but also to raise awareness about the need for equitable healthcare access and the importance of knowing the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.”

This isn’t the first time Middleton has given back to others battling cancer. Earlier this month, the royal met with young photographer Liz Hatton, who was diagnosed with a rare terminal cancer. The young creative was tapped to capture photos at an investiture event at Windsor before spending time with Middleton and her husband, Prince William. The couple’s social media accounts shared sweet photos from the interaction, including a snap of Middleton embracing the 16 year old.

“A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today,” the caption read. “A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. ❤️ W&C”
