The one place in the UK where Prince Harry can find refuge – with or without Meghan Markle – as a caring hand is extended.
The Duke of Sussex is unlikely to be at Sandringham for the festive season but could be persuaded to pay a visit to the family of Diana, Princess of Wales
Prince Harry is reportedly keen to spend more time in the UK and is even eyeing up a trip to his home country for Christmas. The Duke of Sussex quit Britain for the USA with wife Meghan Markle in 2020 after they both stepped down from royal duties.
It has triggered a huge rift within The Firm with the couple going on the offensive in the media with a series of attacks on the family. While King Charles is keen to end the feud, it is not known if Harry and Meghan will be invited to spend the festive season with his family.
Even if they are, it is unlikely Meghan will accept. She is settled in California with their children Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet. The Duchess is said to have security fears about travelling to the UK and does not possess Harry’s fondness for the country.
So while a trip to Sandringham seems unlikely, there is one corner of Britain where Harry may yet find solace. Sources suggest he would be welcome to spend Christmas at the Althorp House, the ancestral home of the Spencers, Princess Diana’s family.
Harry paid a visit there in August, days after the anniversary of his mother’s death. He stayed with his uncle Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, at his estate after attending a memorial service for Diana’s brother-in-law, Lord Robert Fellowes.
His brother Prince William was also there, although those present said the pair never spoke. While the King is keen to find a solution to repair the relationship, William is in a less forgiving mood.
