Lizzie Cundy dodges awkward encounter with former pal Meghan Markle
Lizzie Cundy narrowly avoided an awkward reunion with her former friend Meghan Markle at a charity event in Los Angeles, after she was "ghosted" by the Duchess.
Lizzie Cundy narrowly avoided an uncomfortable encounter with her former acquaintance Meghan Markle at a recent charity gala in the US.
The 56 year old socialite had befriended the Duchess of Sussex in 2013, when they met at a charity event in London. Lizzie alleged that Meghan had asked her to suggest “famous men” she could date, but claimed she was “ghosted” by Meghan after she met Prince Harry.
A potentially awkward reunion between the two women was averted at the 2024 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Gala on Saturday. Lizzie, who is currently in Los Angeles working on various projects, almost suffered a fashion faux pas as she wore a similar red dress to Meghan.
However, Meghan left the event after the red carpet photocall, allowing Lizzie to mingle with A-list celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis and Demi Lovato.
According to a source, Lizzie was “relieved” that Meghan departed early, as she still felt “hurt” after being suddenly dropped by the Royal when she met Harry.
The insider noted that a meeting between the two “would have been incredibly awkward, given Lizzie didn’t even get an invite to the wedding,” reports the Mirror.
Lizzie has candidly discussed her bond with Meghan, recalling their first encounter at a charity dinner in 2013 where they instantly clicked. “We were having a girly chat and then she said, ‘Do you know any famous guys? I’m single and I really love English men.’ So I said, ‘We’ll go out and find you someone,'” Lizzie recounted.
In her tell-all book, “Tales From The Red Carpet,” Lizzie divulged her initial thoughts on who to pair Meghan with for a date.
The duo reconvened the next day at another high-profile event in London, where Lizzie observed Meghan’s sociable nature. “I remember her asking about my boys. She was very interested and asking lots of questions. Usually you find actresses just talk about themselves. She was really fun, really sweet. I liked her,” Lizzie admitted.
