Kate Middleton’s embarrassing shopping mishap accidentally revealed her secret name.

The Prince and Princess of Wales lived in a small farmhouse in Wales in the early days of their marriage, and Kate was a frequent visitor at the local shops where she suffered an awkward blunder

Like many of us, it seems the Princess of Wales sometimes likes nothing better than indulging in a spot of retail therapy.

But one apparent relatable blunder while out at the shops saw Kate let slip a secret name she would sometimes go by. It happened shortly after she and Prince William wed in 2011, when they spent the early days of their marriage living in Wales where William was a search and rescue pilot based at RAF Valley.

The royal pair lived in a rented farmhouse near the seaside resort of Rhosneigr in Anglesey as at the time, neither of them were full-time working royals.

Locals would often see Kate doing the food shop in the local Waitrose supermarket and browsing other stores, including a watersports store near their former home. But during one visit to the shop, called Funsport, Kate suffered an embarrassing yet relatable blunder – and had to give the shopkeeper a secret name.

It came after she tried to buy a wetsuit and realised that she had forgotten her purse so was unable to pay. Oblivious shopkeeper Dave Buckland then asked Kate for her name when she asked if she could reserve the wetsuit to collect later when she had money on her.

And the name she gave him was “Mrs Cambridge” – a nod to her former title the Duchess of Cambridge – and according to the Mail on Sunday, the shopkeeper was none-the-wiser. An unnamed source told the newspaper back in 2012: “He was looking straight at her and actually commented that it was quite an unusual surname. He hadn’t a clue who she was. She just smiled and said she’d be back. He hasn’t lived it down since.”

However, it seems it is not the only awkward moment Kate has suffered while out shopping – another came several years ago when she was with her two oldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte. In 2018, she was spotted with her two eldest children in tow shopping at the Peter Jones department store in London to kit them out with new shoes for school.
