Prince William greets crowds on royal duty with cheeky Aston Villa confession that says it all

Prince William headed back to work after a night of celebrations following his beloved Aston Villa’s Champions League win – and made a cheeky confession.

After being at Villa Park last night to cheer on his team as they notched up a 1-0 win against Bayern Munich last night, the Prince of Wales travelled to Tyne and Wear today to visit Birtley Community Pool. The swimming pool had been closed in 2023 due to spiralling costs but the local community pulled together to raise the funds needed to run it themselves.

It has also been helped with a grant from William and wife Kate’s Royal Foundation to provide much-needed swimming lessons and lifeguard training for the local community.

On visiting the pool today, William greeted a crowd of wellwishers who had turned out to catch a glimpse of him. Knowing his love of Aston Villa, one told him: “Aston Villa won last night!” To which Wills replied and admitted: “They did, I know! I lost my voice because I was shouting a bit too much last night.”

Once inside the venue he then met Olympic gold medalist swimmers and Strictly Come Dancing contestants Adam Peaty and Tom Dean, as well as Paralympian swimmers Maisie Summers-Newton and Louise Fiddes. There he chatted with them about the importance of swimming and also got the opportunity to check out their Olympic and Paralympic medals that they had all brought along. Later he also watched as a group of primary school children enjoyed a swimming lesson.
