Prince Harry dashes King Charles reunion hopes – but he’s not going home yet

Prince Harry is expected to leave the UK after a fleeting visit back to his homeland – but it seems he’s not heading back home to Meghan Markle yet.

The Duke of Sussex attended the WellChild Awards in London last night during his whistlestop trip to his homeland. There he paid tribute to the children and teenagers, who act as carers, fundraisers or face debilitating conditions, and were recognised by the charity.

His brief trip to the UK came as relations with his father King Charles and brother Prince William remained strained. And despite travelling thousands of miles from California, it appears that Harry did not see his older sibling or his father, who is receiving treatment for cancer, during his brief stint in the country, as he remained in Scotland following engagements north of the border.

His trip to London came off the back of a string of solo engagements without wife Meghan in New York last week. And it seems his solo travels are set to continue on leaving London as he travels to Southern Africa for yet another overseas trip. It was confirmed last week that he is travelling to the region as part of a visit for his charity Sentebale, which he co-founded in 2006.

It will be his first trip to the area since 2019 and will see him gather world business leaders and philanthropists to work towards fostering prosperity in Southern African communities, specifically focused on young people. His Sentebale charity, which he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, will bring together leaders from Google’s charitable arm and several other companies and organisations for a series of meetings and discussions in both Lesotho and Johannesburg, South Africa.

While Sentable was initially established to help children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS, it now works to establish solutions to broader problems impacting youth in the region, like health issues, wealth inequity, and climate. The organisation’s name means ‘forget-me-not’ in the Sesotho language, and the princes established the charity in memory of their late mothers.

At last night’s WellChild Awards, Harry talked about Meghan’s absence as he met one of the winners, Scarlett Cripps, who was recognised for her uplifting attitude despite living with a number of complex medical conditions.
