‘I interviewed Princess Anne – one thing she did left me stunned and very flustered’

Princess Anne is said to have "snuck in" through a secret door ahead of an interview to "observe" the atmosphere, ahead of a "difficult interview".

A royal contributor has recalled a moment with Princess Anne she was particularly “struck” by.

Sarah Hewson previously interviewed the Princess Royal in what she described as a “difficult” moment due to the nature of their chat, but praised the late Queen’s daughter on her professionalism.

The Washington Post’s contributor went on to say that while she and the crew believed they had a “lot of time” in the run-up to the interview, they were told that the Princess Royal had actually “snuck in” much earlier.

“Princess Anne snuck in through a side door early herself, just to observe and to catch us off guard and then everyone was very flustered,” she recalled.

“She was incredibly professional, we were interviewing her for royal obituaries so it was a very difficult interview to be doing.”

On what she was particularly “struck by”, the royal contributor added on The Royal Beat – The Waleses: Plans For The Future: “She introduced herself to every single crew member at the beginning of the interview and, by the time it had finished, she had remembered every single person’s name.”

Sarah recalled her memory of the late Queen’s daughter following the release of Prime Video’s A Very Royal Scandal, which provides brand-new insights into Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis.
