Who Prince Harry really confides in as feud with Royal Family escalates
Since leaving royal duties, the Duke of Sussex has cultivated a small circle of friends and confidants who he relies on regularly.
It was in January 2020 that Prince Harry, along with Meghan Markle, decided to leave their royal roles and royal titles. Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have moved to California where they reside with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Since the move ruptured Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family and some of his usual contacts, many of whom have chosen a side, the Prince has had to make new friends.
But some family members have stuck by him – including his maternal aunts and uncles. Althorp House, where the Spencer family, including uncle Earl Spencer and aunts, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, reside, is important to Harry.
These are the family members Harry has chosen to confide in.
The Spencers, Princess Diana’s family, showed up for Harry for his Invictus Games celebrations and they’ve been to California to celebrate Princess Lilibet’s christening.
Prince Harry also came to the UK to visit Althorp House after the death of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes.
Given that Harry doesn’t have a tax-funded security detail, which he is in a legal battle with the government over, staying at Althorp House shows how safe he feels there.
This Grade I-listed stately home is also where the late Princess Diana spent much of her childhood and is her final resting place, giving Harry even more reason to connect with it.
It’s not just the Spencers he trusts. The Duke has found American confidants too and developed a friendship with Canadian Grammy-winning record producer David Foster. Given that the producer is just a year younger than King Charles, he has also become a bit of a father figure for Harry.
